Or moving on to another platform.
I feel like I do circles with my blogs. This is my 2nd blog and my heart is just not in it anymore. I want to be craft blogging, but this platform just leads to procrastinating for me.
Thoughts?Just Whem and Oschttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07853595868587097431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2292302094126806054.post-47760698267699317422013-04-29T12:05:00.001-07:002013-04-29T12:07:10.838-07:00A very mousey EasterSo my last post was all about Easter baskets...
I couldn't post what was in the Mouse basket, because I didn't want to let the cat, er...mouse, out of the bag.

What exactly do you put in a grown man's Easter basket?
Well, I'll tell you!

First of all. The "basket" was a large plastic bucket, with a vinyl cutouts on it. I used red and white vinyl and my cricut to make a Transformers Autobot, and one of his silly nicknames that I call him, the most Easter-y one "Jellybeanz."

Among his treasures, there was
*1000 piece Jellybeans puzzle (Its really cool. here is the link on amazon. We will do it on a rainy night in with a bottle of wine or something. I want to put it in a frame or something, since we call each other Jellybeanz, or JBeanz. Cue the awwww)
*Water gun full of jelly beans
*Chocolate storm trooper bunny

*Transformers tooth brush
*Black and hot pink dress socks
*Beer savers, he doesn't waste beer very often, but I do...so I guess this was more for me

That's just insane!

When I was little I used to LOVE Easter! My grandparents live on 500 acres of Easter Egg hunting goodness! AND their eggs were filled with quarters, ladies and gentleman...none of this candy crap that people give out these days! Wonder if I could convince my Daddad to put out some quarter eggs this year?!?

Easter used to also mean that it was almost my birthday! Being an early May baby, that was usually the case! Well not this year! With Easter being on March 30...I still have a ways to go!!

I've been busy making some special Easter baskets for my special boys. Oscar Man, naturally. Aron, Jason, and Jax...and Chris. He may be an adult, but you are never too big for the Easter bunny to bring you goodies =)

Wanna see what I've been up to?

Oscar already got his "Basket..." The Outward Hound Kyjen sling. I had planned on opening it up and filling it with his treats, but Chris and I took him to the Dulles Pet Expo last weekend and didn't want to walk him on a leash because there would be a lot of other dogs there, so I had to bust into it early.

And here he is in it:

He will be getting a couple of new rawhides, too =)

As for Aron, Jason and Jax....

A good friend of mine's daughter has started her own business sewing different things for around the house. All natural and eco friendly...my favorite. She is an awesome mom, a tattooed mom, a military wife...all my favorite. So I HAD to support her!

When she posted about these little beauties for sale, I just had to get one for each boy. They are amazingly constructed, super cute, and she made them in fabrics to match each boys room! Camo for Aron, Pirates for Jason, and Motorcycles for Jax!!

Awesome Easter Bunnies from One-Eyed Jack Cloth! Check her out on etsy!

And Chris...well yeah right, I'm not going to post anything about his! That would ruin the surprise. I CAN tell you that it will be a funny mix of manly things, kid things, and delicious things!

What do you want in YOUR Easter basket? Just Whem and Oschttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07853595868587097431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2292302094126806054.post-80623591352797694902013-03-13T10:05:00.000-07:002013-03-13T10:05:00.592-07:00WhooooooWhooooo loves this fabric???

I bought 3 yards and have no idea what to do with it! There are owls, and my colors, and and and...I just couldn't help myself!

The pattern is too large to make a scrub top look right.

Its too "cartoony" to make any other article of clothing for an adult.

Too nice to make an Oscar blankie with (sorry buddy!)

I don't have my own place yet, and don't know where I will be, so I can't really make any kitchen bits like cloth napkins, un-paper towels, place mats, or use it to dress up kitchen towels.

Would be cute for a valance on a shower curtain or something in a bathroom...but I don't know where I'm going to be in the next six months to a year.

Pillow cases? Eh. Seems kinda lame for such an awesome print!

Ideas? Anyone?

My bad. No really, I'm constantly thinking about ways in which I can improve the blog, projects that I can show and/or do tutorials for, etc...but then I get distracted....

By really a tall, funny, good lookin' computer nerd from Massachusetts.

Meet Christopher. Or Mouse. I call him mouse...why? Ask someone from Massachusetts to say mouse...and you will know why! =)
We've been doin' our thing for 3 months or so. He makes me laugh until my belly hurts, he's considerate and caring, we go on crazy "adventure" dates. He loves Oscar, Cuban food, trying new things, and he's a good dancer! Things are moving slow and super fun and amazing. I couldn't be happier!

(Oh...yes I could, if my divorce would hurry up and be finalized. I'm not super keen on having a boyfriend AND a husband. Ugh. Chris is very understanding though, and we just don't talk about the last 4 years of my life and the idiot that was a part of them!)

How did we meet? I knew that was coming! He works with Matt...my own mother even said that she trusts Matt and Gioia's judgement over mine at this point. I'd have to say that I agree! Good job and thank you, guys!!!

What have you been up to? Because let me tell you, I haven't been blogging, OR blog reading! I haven't been like this about a boy since I was probably 14 years old! haha

I DO have some craftiness planned for this week though, so I'll see you soon!

I'm on a first name basis with them, they just don't know it yet =)

Anyway, they posted this week about the "Macklemore Thrift Shop Challenge."

This is RIGHT up my alley!! You go into a thrift shop, with just $20 in your pocket, spend your $20 any way you want, and then photograph your loot!

I can't wait to do it!!

I can't remember where I saw these, but I think a co-worker had told me that her mom makes them for Christmas. Ever since then, they have been in the back of my mind...taunting me.

Ladies and gentleman...Chocolate covered potato chips. In this case, Pringles, because that's the brand that was recommended to me to stand up the best in the dipping process!

Let me start by telling you that there was a traumatic melted chocolate experience on Christmas Eve that involved all three of us Briner girls gathered around a small, homemade double broiler full of chocolate chips (yes, the Toll house kind) trying to get the damn things to melt evenly. We ended up making a horrendous mess, and only having enough chocolate to dip about 24 orange slices, for our family Christmas Day gathering of 18. Epic fail. But they WERE delicious!

I have made melty chocolate goodies before, and used a small crocpot, or an electric fondue pot, and it works like a charm. I told Erin and Hannah that I would try and find one at an after Christmas sale for us!

The next day was Christmas and we were all at our Daddad's house. I went down into the basement to put my corn pudding into the extra oven down there, and low and behold, a tiny crocpot, still wrapped in plastic, never used! I took it back upstairs and asked Daddad if he ever used it, and he said "No, why? Do you want it?" Of course I said YES!! To which he enthusiastically told me to get it outta the house before he threw it out. I think my Ma was looking out for me :)

ANYWAY...another option to the fondue/little crocpot is a pre-packaged little cup of chocolate melts that you can buy at most grocery stores. That's what I used for the first time I made the Pringles! You just peel the lid off, pop it in the microwave, and you are good to go. This is not the brand I used, Wal Mart had a different one, but you get the idea. It is found in the baking aisle, near the chocolate chips and things like that

I had intended to do this for NYE but never got around to it. I was watching Jax and had a few friends over and between his feedings, and watching Amish Mafia, it just didn't happen ;)

One day last week, Gioia called me at work in a panic because she was with Matt's dad at UVA, his surgery had gone on longer than expected, and Matt was in Arlington at work. For those of you non-Virginians...those are both locations FAR apart from each other, and over an hour from where we live.

The time when the bus comes to drop the boys off from school was quickly approaching and she was afraid that neither one of them was going to make it! No worries, that's what Em-Way is for ;) I finished up my day about an hour-and-a-half early and drove over to their house to meet the bus.

I had the boys finish their homework and told them we would make a special snack when they were done. Jason is a chip FANATIC! He loves ANY kind of chips! Potato, tortilla, Doritos, Cheetos, you name it...so I knew this would be a hit!

Jason was screwing around with his reading homework, so Aron and I did most of the dipping, and then threw them in the fridge to cool and harden while we waited for Jason. we dipped about half of each chip into the chocolate, and left the other half plain.

You could just as easily dip the whole thing in, if that's what you want :)

Also, the boys came up with the idea of adding sprinkles! How cute would red and pink sprinkled chips be for Valentines Day??

I'm not a huge fan of New Years Resolutions, because they usually just get broken come February 1st...however, 2010-2012 were pretty rough for me in hindsight, so I decided that 2013 is going to be the year of Emily.
The year that I start doing what is right for me.
The year that I start moving in the right direction.
The year that NO ONE controls how I feel, what I do, who I am.
So...while I'm going to call these resolutions, they are more like goals and/or inspirations.

In NO particular order, except the first one...its #1 for sure!!

-Finalize my DIVORCE!!!
-Get new tags, title on my Escape
-Sell my engagement ring
-Get finances in order
-Go back to the firehouse in some way, unsure yet on how, when, etc.
-More time with my family and Oscar
-Walk Oscar at least 3-4x/week
-Loose a few pounds and be able to be comfortable in a dress and cowboy boots at Daniel and Amy's wedding in June
-Have a minimum of 4 Initials Inc parties/month.
-Push hard to sell $12,000 worth of Initials Inc product in one year, which would pay off my car
-Go to Initials Inc conference in July in Atlanta
-Go on some other trip, maybe to see one of my Aunt's in Alaska or Seattle...something just to get away for a few days
-Work on relationships with the people who matter
-De-clutter and organize
-Grab these migraines by the horns
-Sleep more, Laptop less
-Cut down to 1 soda per day
-Go back to school, even if its just one class at a time
-Get my tattoo finished
-Focus
-Do not be afraid of what is unknown
-No more fireman, motorcycles, unemployed, etc.
-No girl scout cookies
-Do laundry on a regular basis, do not wait until it is out of control
-Take the stairs
-Shop less, save more

I'll probably keep adding to the list, but that's all I've got for 2:30 am, I've got to be up in 4 hours :) Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!Just Whem and Oschttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07853595868587097431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2292302094126806054.post-6215101039676090482013-01-12T22:37:00.001-08:002013-01-12T22:38:23.514-08:002012 The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly...Traditionally I have written a "Top 10" post to round out the year. A list with pictures of my family's best moments, vacations, etc to show you all just what we have been up to (2010 and 2011)

Well...I'm going to be perfectly honest. 2012 was rough. And that's an understatement.

I was very reluctant to link up the 2010 and 2011 posts from my old blog...because as I look back on them my "best of" moments were actually not very good at all. Things were very hard for me in Chicago, and I played it all off like life was good and we were a happy little family with our 2 pups and life was just swell.

The Ugly:
If you have been following me, you know that it was not. My VERY BEST moment of 2012...

Leaving Chicago. This was the single most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. It was the easiest decision I have ever made, but it was not easy to do. Does that even make sense? My marriage was over LONG before I left, but I was scared...terrified even, to leave. It is something that I cannot even begin to describe to you. Maybe one day.
All I know is that I am stronger, smarter, happier and have never felt more alive than I do now. Being HOME with the people who love and care about me has never felt so good.

Aside from leaving my husband and loosing my home, I also left behind and AMAZING job in Chicago. I could not have been any happier than I was in that position. My boss taught me everything I know about Cardiology and gave me the skills that made it possible for me to take the position that I am in now. He and his wife also were so generous to me during my struggle after leaving, and I can never thank them enough for that.

The Bad:
In the midst of picking up the pieces of my life, I lost one of the most influential and important people in it. My Ma. I'm 28 and until August 6th had all four of my grandparents living. I have lost a few friends, but never someone extremely close.

She has been slowly slipping away from us, body and mind, for the last 5-7 years, but that never makes it any easier. I still called her every Sunday and answered her as she repeated the same questions and reminded her of day-to-day details that were sometimes fuzzy to her.

She was the epitome of a Southern lady. Always dressed to the nines. She loved all animals, the Redskins, and her family...especially her grandchildren.

She died on a Tuesday morning at quarter to six. I cried all the way to work, and still do some days. I miss her like crazy. Her funeral was beautiful, just as she would have wanted it.

My Daddad is doing OK. At 85 he really has no physical or mental restrictions and is enjoying things that he has not been able to do for years because so lovingly has been caring for Ma. I've called him and found him to be out metal detecting, gardening, fishing, on skype with his brother or reading a book She died 2 months before their 63rd wedding anniversary. I can only hope to find love like that.

The Good:
Finally...enough of this depressing crap!!
Despite my emotional train wreck, some good things DID happen in 2012! Being in Chicago for the last 4 years, it KILLED me to be away from friends and family. Coming back home meant just that...being HOME.
Two of the very first people I rushed to go see (aside from Mom, Dad, Erin and Hannah!) were of course, Aron and Jason...my dudes, my stinkers, my main men.

Aron and Jason have been through a lot this year as well. Their dad is one of my very best friends, and I'm happy to say that 2012 brought him:
1. A final divorce from their mother (sounds bad, but is a very good thing)
2. A marriage to Gioia (yay!)
3. A beautiful new home
4. The birth of the boy's brother!!

Meet Jackson...he melts me <3

Just after my grandmother died, I got some new ink...my cousin (well...2nd cousin, once removed) Brian did it. Through some genealogy research, Brian found us on facebook and had been communicating with my aunts, dad, myself etc. He is an accomplished tattoo artist and I am VERY lucky to call him my cousin. He is still working on it, so I do not have a picture...but stay turned for the end result as well as before and after shots, as this is a cover up job!

Oscar has THRIVED since we moved back home. I was initially very worried about him being away from Lyla, since they had been pretty much joined at their cute little doxie hips since they were 6 months old.
Separating them was not ideal, but that is what had to happen, and there was no way in hell that Kurt was going to keep Oscar up there, so that is the compromise that I made.
Since coming to Virginia, he has:
1. Lost a pound (That's a lot for a little dog! And ideal weight for him!)
2. Learned to safely navigate up and down stairs (He NEVER did stairs before, had to be carried)
3. Continued to ring his jingle bell on the back door to go outside, and even "taught" some of the other dogs to do the same
4. Gotten to sleep in bed with Momma (Never could before, because Lyla could not be trusted

I signed on to be an Independent Creative Partner with Initials Inc. in November. I've already earned some extra money and free product. I like that I have the freedom to work as much or as little as I want to, and hope to continue to do well with this. With a little slice of luck, I can do well enough with this to cut down on my hours at work and be able to go back to school!

Reward offered for it's safe return!!!

There was an incident at work where everyone had the same little crocpot...so I put this extra vinyl sticker that I had made with my cricut on mine for quick identification and a few laughs =)

Well...apparently someone else liked it too...because now the damn thing is missing!! This is my FAVORITE crocpot! Its the 2.5 quart one, the one for dips and small things. I use it ALL the time! The nephews and I had been using it to melt chocolate chips and make Chocolate covered pringles and pretzels for Christmas!

So anyway, if you see this Zombie crocpot at your next potluck, you know who to call! I'd be happy to make someone another sticker!! THIS, my friends...may be the single best thing I have ever found at a flea market!

This owl lamp was terrible...it was brown, orange and 18 shades of ugly straight out of 1972.

Katie spotted it from the parking lot though. The girl has an eye for wildlife, what can I say?

When the lady told her $5, there was no hesitation, or question in my mind that this monstrosity was coming home with us!!

It took her a little bit, but my best wildlife lovin' friend picked out this perfect shade of gray this weekend and turned her formerly hideous friend into an amazing piece!

Totally jealous, and in love with this lamp!!

Happy Birthday, Erin! (Belated...I'm a day late!)

My "little" sister, the only "friend" I've had for as long as I can remember. Since I was 20 months old.

We have fought, loved, smiled, cried, hugged, hated, supported, let down, encouraged and laughed at each other over the last 27 years...and I can't thank you enough for all of those memories.

My little sister suffers more in a day, than most people do in a lifetime. She has severe chronic myofascial pain, Asperger's syndrome and depression. I cannot even imagine a day in her shoes. I admire her for keeping up her constant battle.

Part of the Asperger's thing is being mildly OCD about certain things. She tends to "latch on" to some thing, whether it be a book, movie, etc and obsess about it for a long time. For a while it was The Lord of the Rings, and then Sci Fi romance novels, or witches and the show "Charmed," and then Harry Potter.

Well, these days (and for quite some time!) it has been the Twilight series. I think obsession is honestly putting it lightly. She has read all the books and seen all of the movies several times. she reads about the cast and characters online, reads all of these "alternate endings," online, etc.

She is very much "Team Jacob," (Hannah and I are Team Edward, just for funsies! lol) and has been into Werewolf things, and Native Americans as Jacob is from a Native American Werewolf tribe. Sooo...when I stumbled across this wolf hat/scarf/mittens combo...I just HAD to have it for her!!!

So perfect! Happy Birthday, E!

This time of year is always a little nuts for me. I work for an already busy cardiologist, but when people decide that they want to make and follow through with New Year's Resolutions, they usually involve taking care of one's self and for a lot of people that involves:

1. Working out, which may require cardiac clearance if they have a previous cardiac problem

2. Working out, which they can't handle, so they end up causing a NEW cardiac problem

3. Going to the doctor for a "check up," which they haven't had since last January, so now their cholesterol is out of control, none of their medications are up to date, and they need all of their annual testing...and they want it all done. Now.

4. They got new insurance as of 1/1, or they are now 65 and so they can now go to the doctor, and come in and be pushy and demanding about needing testing, lab work, prescriptions, etc all done. Now.

I love my job, and love my patients even more...but these obnoxious, once a year people get on my damn nerves!! They are like the people who only go to Church on Christmas and call themselves Christians, or the ones that donate $25 to the SPCA or another charity once every five years and want a big pat on the back. UGH.

Anyway, what are your resolutions? Stay tuned for Oscar and I's goals and resolutions for 2013, and our best and worst moments of 2012!Just Whem and Oschttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07853595868587097431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2292302094126806054.post-18796362656062161992013-01-04T00:07:00.000-08:002013-01-04T00:07:00.286-08:00Happy Bloggy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday to my blog! I've officially been blogging for 2 years now! Hard to believe how many things have changed in that 2 years, I can't even imagine what my life was like then anymore.
I'm not feeling all that great today, so I'm planning on catching up later in the weekend, but until then...stay safe and enjoy the first weekend of 2013 =)

I've bought several sets of them for my nephews, and Matt and Gioia's boys through out the years. I'm not sure when I realized that the reason I kept buying them was really for me, and not them!

Then two years ago at church, they bought the HUGE Noah's Ark and Nativity Scene for the kid's play room! I sat there with another older lady for about 2 hours putting everything together...you know, for the kids =)

This lady was German, and had owned and operated a toy store both in Germany and there in Chicago. She told me all about all the different playmobil sets she had seen and how she had seen them change over the years.

If I didn't love them then, I sure did now! It was Christmas time, and I went home and bid on my very first one that night on eBay. A set of two, A Santa and an Angel. I won those bad boys for $2.50.

To this day, the angel at the top of my tree is Playmobil.

So I just collected one Santa at a time. I told myself I'd never pay more than $1 for a figure. Because paying more than $1 for a toy, as a grown woman, is kinda silly.
So in 4 years, I've collected these Santas:

Wow! That's a whole lotta St. Nick, huh? I love them! Last year they sat (literally, they're little bodies bend, love it!) on my mantle, just chillin' waiting for the REAL Santa to come :)

So then I'd just pick up other figures as I would see them at yard sales, garage sales, etc. Again, I follow the $1 or less rule. I don't have too many of the other guys.

The four to the right are vintage 70's figures :) The fireman is new! He was a gift from a friend who recently found out about my nerd collection. He is a key chain but I'm reluctant to put him on my keys because his face shield comes off pretty easily.

My "other" category is rather lame! They have nurses, Indians, cowboys, rebel soldiers, pirates, princesses, mermaids, fireman, zombies, snowmen, zookeepers, biblical characters, British castle guards, ghosts, vampires, kings and queens, police, bus drivers, race car drivers, etc etc etc.

So there you have it, I'm not only crafty, but also a collector of toys, just call me Sheldon Cooper! That's not so bad though, I love me some Sheldon.

Bazinga!

So here we are, What I like to call "Christmas Eve Eve"

What is on your list?
Oscar and I have a little imaginary list going on here. We haven't shared it with anyone, so we know we aren't getting any of it, ha ha =)

In all reality, we are SO glad to be home with my family for the first time in 4 years. I am safe, and not in fear for my safety this year. I am not working 80+ hours to try and support an alcoholic husband. I am still battling the migraines, but less than last year! We have a roof over our heads, a warm bed to sleep in, I have a job (and Initials Inc!,) and a car to drive, and a little bit of money in my pocket! Because of these things, I've got EVERYTHING I want for Christmas, and this will the best Christmas I've had in a long time!

Doesn't mean a girl can't wish, right??

So...in no particular order =)

1. Lasik surgery! My contacts are such a pain in the butt, and my glasses are an old Rx, and I can't really wear them except around the house. I'd loooooove to wake up, roll outta bed and be able to SEE!

2. A finalized divorce and financial papers!!

3. A REALLY good year with Initials Inc! Complete with tons of parties, sales, and maybe even a few recruits! There is an Initials Inc. conference in Atlanta in July that I would love to go to as well, hoping to make enough selling that I can go!

4. Headache Ice Pillow from Amazon.com

5. Turquoise or Aqua down comforter. My current one is VERY old, and Lyla chewed a hole in it a while ago. I keep putting packing tape over the whole, but that's pretty lame. I'd love a new one!!

6. Some new scrubs, including jackets. Scrubs get worn out, just like anyone else's "work clothes." So I could use some new tops, pretty good on pants. I've never been into wearing the jackets. I usually just wear long sleeved shirts under the tops. But since Jennifer has been on maternity leave, I've been stealing her black jacket almost every day, and I like it =) Since she will be back in mid-January, I should probably get my own!

7. New coat. All of my coats are "Chicago" rated. Totally unnecessary for down here. I really like this Carhartt one. They also have a pretty turquoise one that I saw. Something that will last, but doesn't need to be rated for sub-zero temperatures and 3 feet of snow!

8. Dog food. His stuff is pretty expensive. I love him and it helps keep him slim and trim, so I pay the $40 a bag, but if Ol' Saint Nick wants to help me out, by all means, throw a few bags in the sleigh!

9. Rawhides, Nylabones, Flea and tick meds, and anything else for Momma's boy...I usually would rather not eat lunch and pay for his stuff, so I'll just go ahead and ask for it for Christmas :)

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

In the past 5-6 years I have handmade at least 1/2 of my gifts, had the most beautifully wrapped packages, and baked dozens of cookies by now...

But alas, here I am, a few store bought gifts, nothing wrapped, and cookie-less.

I DID manage to make a few ornaments about a month ago. My friend Gioia was having a Holiday "shopping event" where people could come and shop for Slumber Parties, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, 31 (booo! lmao) etc. products. I had set up a table with a few handmade ornaments. Mainly my favorite, the wine cork reindeer. I just love these guys, and they are always a favorite!

I didn't take pics as I went, so I don't have a tutorial, but here is a picture :) I use 4 corks, glue gun them together, add antlers and a ribbon or a hook. Some of them have eyes and a nose...some of them just get left plain.

Black scrub pants, black scrub jacket...good to go, baby!
It's MY thing!

I'm THAT girl who drags everyone out to drive around and look at lights!
I love to go to the mall and listen to the Christmas music and enjoy the hustle and bustle!
I take Oscar to sit on Santa's lap!
I make cookies!
I wrap gifts with big, gorgeous bows!
I send beautiful, handmade Christmas cards (Usually postmarked by the first week of December!)
I wear Christmas scrubs!
I put THREE trees up last year! Including one just for my Dachshund!

I just can't get into it this year. I'm not sure if its because this is my first year alone? Alone as in, not with Kurt...I have my family around, which I am SO THANKFUL for....but being alone in a relationship sense is kinda a bummer around the holidays.

I'm also BROKE as a joke. I can't do or buy the things I want, and I REALLY have to watch what I am spending. I usually go CRAZY on Aron and Jason (and now Jackson) but I just can't this year. I know that they won't know, and they love their Em-way just the same...but it breaks me inside a little.

How is YOUR holiday season going? Are you Buddy the Elf this year? Or Mr. Scrooge?

Having a headache for 15 days and being on IV pain medication makes on a little less thankful and even more importantly...less able to write facebook posts that make any sense, so I ended it there.
But I did keep them all on a document so that I could share them on my blog, because I really and truly DO have so many things to be thankful for....

My Facebook (almost) 30 days of thanks:

November 1. I am thankful for my amazing parents.
Without them I would not be who I am today. I would not have had the
strength to put one foot in front of the other, from my very first
steps, to the most difficult of times, especially in the last 9
months.

November 2. I am thankful for my grandmother, my
Ma. She passed away on August 6. I am so blessed to have had 28 years
with her. She was an amazing example of strength, creativity and
love. Not a day goes by when I don't think about her, and smile. I
know that she is resting peacefully and watching over all of us,
smiling that beautiful Trumbo smile of hers :)

November 3: I am thankful for Erin Briner. I was blessed with a sister when I was 20 months old, so
I've pretty much never known life without her. Her smart ass mouth
and hilarious views sometimes frustrate me, but also make me laugh
until my stomach hurts sometimes. She fights harder in one day than
most people do in their whole lives, and I love her for it.

November 4: I am thankful for my beautiful, hilarious,
intelligent, creative, smart mouthed, baby sister, Hannah. Despite
out differences, and the fact that she once held a large vase over
her head and said, "I'll break this and tell mom you did it,"
she is truly my best friend.

November 5: I am thankful for flannel sheets because damn, its
cold!

November 6: I am thankful for my Oscar Mayer. My
partner in crime for the last 3 years. I'm not sure I would have made
it through all of the insanity without him. He has made me laugh when
I wanted to cry, and kept me going through migraines, divorce, and
Lord knows what else :)

November 7: I am thankful that I live in a society where divorce
is not only allowed, but accepted. I am a firm believer in “till
death due us part,” but sometimes you have to stand up, and realize
that you can't let someone who is ruining their life, ruin yours as
well. People have a lot of excuses for why marriages fail, and I can
tell you about 100 reasons why mine did. But in reality I am just
thankful that I am able to walk away unscathed, and hold me head up
high, knowing that I made the right decision, and my life will be
better because of it.

November 8: I am thankful for text messaging. Man, what did we do
without it?!?

November 9: I am thankful for good friends. They know who they
are. Without them, life would be no fun, and quite boring. Friends
make life worth living.

November 10: I am thankful for Aron, Jason and Jackson Komar.
Aside from my dad, the 3 most important men in my life! Aron, always
making me laugh with his crazy knock knock jokes and funny outbursts!
I love his sweet cuddly side, and his sometimes mischievous and
sneaky side. Jason, I was there to hold him the day he was born, and
he has had me around his little finger since then! I love that
scratchy little voice and his somewhat oblivious attitude toward the
world. Being in Chicago and away from these 2 dudes was heart
wrenching! And then there is Baby Jax...so special in every way! From
the way he made his entrance into this world, to the cute little
giggles he gives me when I go to get him at 6am. He is a perfect mix
of both parents and I can't wait to see how his personality will
develop into a mix of Matt, Gioia, Aron and Jason! I am so proud to
be these boys Em-Way!

November 11: Today I am thankful for migraine medications. It has
been a less than pleasant day, and it would have only been worse
without them!

November 12: I am thankful for the men and women who give and have
given of themselves to serve our great nation.

November 13: I am thankful for opportunity. You never know whats
around the next corner, and you gotta keep on looking around those
corners, especially when times get tough!

November 14: I'm so thankful for Dansko nursing clogs. They're the
only reason I can stand on my feet for 8 to 12 hours a day for the
last 10 years!

November 15: I am thankful for a place for Oscar and I to call
home. It is so cold out there, and there are so many without homes.
Despite an insane year of loosing nearly everything, I am so
fortunate that I have amazing parents who allowed us to move in here
after I left Chicago.

November 16: I am thankful for my car. I loooove that Hybrid :)

November 17: I am thankful for Cards against Humanity. A terrible,
terrible card game...but oh so fun with a glass of wine and good
friends!

November 18: I am thankful for YVFD. Being within the walls and
amongst the amazing people of this department remind me of who I am,
how far I have come, and the future. Years of memories, calls, and a
place to live when I needed it the most! I miss those insane calls,
late nights on the back porch, and endless hours spent with friends
and brothers. It was good to be “home,” today in the
'Shire...even for a short time. I can't wait to be back for good!

November 19: I am thankful for peanut butter and jelly. My
favorite food on the planet!

November 20: I am thankful for my own bed, you never know how good
it feels until you can't sleep in it for a few days!

November 21: I am thankful for Initials, Inc. I was so torn on the
whole idea of direct sales. I had seen Gioia doing so well in it,
and others just ordering their start up kits and never doing much
else with them. I've always felt that I could be good at it, just
didn't know which company that I wanted to do it with. Since signing
under Initials, I feel a little more confident, have some killer bags
to show off(!!!) and have met some pretty amazing women who are
always willing to help when I have (sometimes stupid) questions!!

November 22: I am thankful to be thankful. I have so much to be
thankful, and there are so many people who do not. Happy
Thanksgiving, everyone!

About a month ago I threw a little baby shower for my friend and co-worker, Jennifer. Her little guy is due ANY day now, and I was a little crunched on time, but I made it work! Jenn is such a good sport and just rolled with all of my crazy ideas, which is why I love her! =)
I have zero dollars in my Mighty Mouse piggy bank, Ladies and Gentleman. Because I was expecting help, but didn't ASK for it, I can only blame myself. So here is how I went about throwing a cute baby shower ON A BUDGET!!!

So if you remember correctly, I'm like Charlie Sheen at baby showers...WINNING!!! You can see some previous posts here:

All of the places around here to have a party, like the Fire Departments, Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus etc wanted at least $400, all the way up $900 just for a few hours! Times like this, I wish my firehouse wasn't SOO far away!! No one else volunteered their homes, and I live with my parents and six dogs, plus I live the furthest away, so that wasn't going to work. The ONLY person who offered to help and have it at their house was Jenn, and NO WAY was I going to make her clean her house and everything to have company over!!!

So, I called the local Ledo's Pizza and I asked how much their party room was, and they said it was FREE!! As long as you order $50 w0rth of food! Perfect. I ordered 2 pizzas for myself, Jenn, and anyone else who waned a few pieces, and a pitcher of sweet tea, and they everyone else figured out their own lunch and paid for it. Sweet! They have delicious food and amazing sweet tea, which seems to be hard to do in Culpeper!

Think outside the box on your location! It doesn't HAVE to be a "fancy" restaurant, or someones house. Ledo's is a pretty inexpensive place, but it was nice not to have to clean up before OR after aside from what we brought in!

I did all of the invitations, naturally, that's my favorite part. I went with a construction/dump truck theme because she already had a "traditional" blue/teddy bear shower when she had Ryan, and a "typical" pink and purple one for Alayna...so I wanted something fun, playful and 100% boy for this one!! I put one invitation on a large white mat and had all the guests sign it for baby Chase :)
As far as decorations went, I would have liked to do a little more, including banners and lots of yellow and orange balloons, but the ceilings in there were around 12 feet...so that made it difficult. I also had to get everything in my car in one trip. You have to think about these things, especially when you are going at it alone =)
The Decorations that I DID included CAUTION tape around each table, a CAUTION tape bow on the back of Jenn's chair, and some cardboard construction signs that I got on Amazon.com. They were 4/$6. I got 2 packages and put them standing on the tables. I also used toy Tonka trucks on the tables to hold favors, cards and other small items.

As for favors, I used the orange swirly lollipops purchased at Oriental Trading. They came with Stickers, which I had them print with "Jennifer's Baby Shower!" I spray painted a foam block and set it down into a Tonka truck to look like it was hauling it.
The second favor was a game really. I bought these 24 ducks on Oriental Trading as well. They have little construction helmets on! So cute! I put them on the table, spilling out of the bull dozer. One of the duckies had a dot on the bottom. When everyone was done eating, I had them grab a duck. The one with the little dot was a 10 year old, she was SO excited!
The "real" favors are the Hershey's HE bars. I saw them a LONG time ago at a wedding where they made HE & SHE bars with their wedding date. These took a little time to come up with a pattern, but once I did, easy peasy lemon squeasy. Orange card stock, with a black card stock dump truck cut out on my cricut, and one yellow ribbon. Cute and easy!
